The Music and Art School of Märjamaa
opened its doors in autumn in 1988. Then we started with 80 pupils. According to the statistics 620 pupils have studied in our school, in addition to that little children of the rhytmic circle and adults who have occasionally participated in the writing courses and different workshops of applied art. Every year there are about 130 pupils in our school.
The aim of the collective of Märjamaa Music and Art School is to be an open (closed to bad), friendly (but strict), clever and long-sighted centre of culture, where there are different opportunities for creative work. The motto of our vision is "openness and the joy of giving".
Different forms of studying enable people of different age groups to take part in the work of our school. 7-8 year-olds start in pre-classes. After basic school it is possible to continue studying when one would like to do it. Writing courses and workshops of applied art offer the joy of doing it yourself to young people as well as to grown-ups.
At the music school it`s possible to learn to play the piano, the violin, the accordion, the guitar, the flute, the record, the clarinet, different brass instruments, the Estonian zither and get knowledge in solfeggio, rhytmics, music history, folk music and playing together. The main subjects at art school are drawing, painting, modelling, composition, the history of art; in addition to that pupils are interested in different techniques of applied art. An unseparable part of our schoolwork is taking part in the music competitions and art exhibitions in our county, in the whole Estonia and on international level - they give us a lot of invaluable experience for creative work.
